MADISON, NJ – Sensor Products Inc. announces Pressurex Extreme Low®, the newest addition to its tactile pressure-indicating sensor films.
Eagerly awaited by the engineering community, Pressurex Extreme Low® characterizes contact surface pressure down to an extremely low 7.2 PSI (0.5 kg/cm2).
The range for Pressurex Extreme Low® is 7.2 – 28 PSI (0.5 – 1.97 kg/cm2).
Pressurex® is available in eight distinct pressure ranges.
The highest pressure range reveals pressure as high as 18,500 – 43,200 PSI (1,300 – 3,000 kg/cm2).
Pressurex® is a Mylar-based film coated on a sheet. It is 4 or 8 mil in thickness, and is similar in appearance to paper. When placed between contacting surfaces, Pressurex® instantaneously and permanently changes color directly proportional to the actual pressure applied.
The precise pressure magnitude (PSI or kg/cm2) is easily determined by comparing color variation results to a color correlation chart (conceptually similar to interpreting Litmus paper.

Pressurex® reveals the surface contact pressure distribution and magnitude between a heat sink (transistor) and heat source interface, aiding significantly in performing thermal analysis.
The film is used in the design, manufacture, calibration and quality control of many products. The variations in contact surface pressure that Pressurex® reveals often result in manufacturing flaws and product defects. Some applications and products that would benefit from analysis with Pressurex®
include heat sinks, press rollers, circuit board lamination, wafer bonding, flip chip bonding, and lcd panel display adhesion.
Mechanical design and assembly of products that depend upon the accurate measurement of the compressive force of clamps, fasteners, connectors and bolted joints, so that the desired pressure distribution over the entire contact surface area is obtained are particularly aided by many ranges of Pressurex®
The film is very flexible, which enables it to conform to curved spaces. It is ideal for invasive, intolerant environments and tight spaces not accessible to conventional electronic transducers. The film can be hand or laser cut to any size or shape.
Pressurex® is ideal for manufacturing process control and machine/component inspection in almost any industrial, electronic and electrical application where contact force or torque must be calibrated and measured. Common applications include assessing contact pressure variations in gaskets, clamps, bolted joints, connectors, heat sinks, heat sealing elements, lamination presses, composite materials, injection molding, nip rolls, welding heads, clutch and brake assemblies, and tire treads.
Free samples of Pressurex® are available from PSI, and the entire line of products and applications can be viewed and bought online.
