Pressure Sensitive Mapping Film from SPI
Displays Accurate Surface Pressure Profile
MADISON, NJ – Sensor Products Inc. presents Pressurex®, a flexible film that allows for rapid and easy determination of surface pressure magnitude, and distribution between two mating or contacting surfaces.
The film is a convenient medium for measuring interfacial stresses at joint surfaces, both physiological and prosthetic.
When placed in the interface, Pressurex® changes color in direct proportion to the actual pressure applied. The result is an instantaneous and permanent “topographical” image of pressure magnitude and distribution across the contact area. Precise pressure magnitude is easily determined by comparing color variation results to a color correlation chart (conceptually similar to interpreting Litmus paper). Pressurex® conforms to curvaceous surfaces and can be hand or laser cut to specific shapes and dimensions.
The film comes in the form of a thin sheet coated with Mylar, physically similar in thickness to paper, that conforms to curvaceous surfaces and invasive intolerant environments. It may be hand or laser cut to different shapes and sizes. Pressurex® film measures pressure from 2 - 43,200 PSI (0.14 - 3,000 kg/cm2) in eight different pressure ranges. When placed between two contacting surfaces, the film instantaneously and permanently changes color. This color change is directly proportional to the actual pressure applied. Precise pressure magnitude is easily determined by comparing the resultant color intensity to a color correlation chart (conceptually similar to interpreting Litmus paper).
Pressurex® has been cited in hundreds of research papers. It is a unique metrology tool for manufacturing process control and machine/component inspection. It is ideal for dozens of industrial applications, such as assessing surface contact defects in gaskets, clamps, bolted joints, connectors, heat sinks, heat sealing elements, lamination presses, nip rolls, welding heads, clutch and brake assemblies, tire treads and, bone and joint interfaces.
Free samples of Pressurex® are available from PSI, and the entire line of products and applications can be viewed and bought online.
